This
is the abbreviated story of Peruvian stamps and philately
that were part of the “War
of the Pacific”, one of the numerous international wars
waged by the young republics of Central and South America during the 19th Century. During the years 1810 to 1825, most of them
had fought to be free of European domination.
Now, at a time when many boundaries were
still undefined they began the process of “jockeying” for more favorable territory
that would benefit commerce and ensure their national permanence.
